By 2012 the
whole of the UK should be switched over to digital, which means all
analogue signals will be switched off. This means that if you have not
upgraded your equipment by this time, you will no longer be able to
receive any TV or Radio broadcasts.
To ensure you receive the full benefit of digital
programming you may need a digitally compatible Aerial, TV with built in
digital receiver or a digital set-top box, or Freeview Box.
Freeview has been up and running in the UK now
since 2002 and provides approximately 48 TV channels and 24 Radio stations
all completely free.
Freesat provides most of the channels available
through Freeview with the signal being provided by a Satellite Dish and a
Freesat receiver, also giving you access to HD channels, BBC iPlayer, ITV
Player, 4OD and a full comprehensive TV Guide for at least seven days.
With both Freeview and Freesat you can pause and
rewind live digital broadcasts and record a single episode or a whole
series of your favourite TV shows. (dependant on set-top box
